Do you know how to take care of your happiness in life? What do you do to live a happier life?
Are you avoiding negative feelings and experiences to maximize positivity in your life? Do you think that’s enough to make you feel truly happy?
(If you want to know exactly how too much positivity works, reading this article might be interesting for you.)
We need to experience a failure to learn how to succeed; we discover some of our strength through sadness, fears, and anger! So, rather than avoiding negativity, we need to learn how not to get stuck in it.
If we knew how to recover back to our happy selves, life could keep its balance! That’s how we’d keep feeling good and happy.
Imagine you could get back to your happy self whenever you needed it. Then you would experience less fear of failure, loss, change, and the stress of big decisions! You’d take more risks and you’d have more self-esteem and less anxiety!
Do you know how to do it?
Let’s look at the concept of self-happiness through a creative story.
Imagine there is a cabinet inside your mind, full of different mason jars! Each jar is filled with something valuable to you; such as:
These jars hold the ingredients of baking your happiness!
Your mind knows its recipes, and they are different for each person, but you should take care of the jars and always keep them full!
What is the relation between

Self-happiness is the skill of taking care of all of these jars! Self-happiness takes care of the values in our jars to help us bring ourselves back to our happy self when we’re feeling down!
To get back to our story, we set aside three mason jars first:
These are for self-care.
Self-care is what we do to take care of these little jars! It’s when we actively take time to pay attention to ourselves.
At its core, self-care is a beautiful concept which means that we’re so important to ourselves that we’re caring for our wants and needs.
Now, let’s set aside four other jars:
These jars are for our self-development!
Self-development is when you think about your purpose in life and set goals in order to achieve it! It’s an act of respect toward ourselves. If we keep these jars full, we will always be motivated to do what we should do! We’ll grow more confident and compassionate too. This skill helps us become the best version of ourselves!
At its heart, it is very simple, too. Self-development is learning; learning something that ultimately changes our lives for the better and makes us a happier and more cheerful person.
Then, we set aside these three jars:
These jars are for our self-love!
Self-love is caring about our own well-being and happiness. After all, how can we love our friends or neighbors unconditionally before we learn to love ourselves no matter what? Self-love is the everyday reminder that we show love toward ourselves. If we make a habit of loving ourselves, we can embrace our ”shortcomings” and appreciate them, because they make us who we are! This is an essential skill for becoming a happier person!
At the end of the day, it’s only an act of kindness, all day, every day, both toward ourselves and others.
And last but not least, we have two jars :
These jars are for our self-esteem!
Self-esteem is our sense of overall self-worth. Basically, it’s how much we value ourselves. Good, balanced self-esteem pushes us toward success and confidence and is a highly positive factor in our lives! By keeping our self-esteem jars full, we form good relationships, become more satisfied with our lives, and dare to achieve more.
In the end, self-esteem is to remind ourselves that we are worth as much as others are and bound for greatness!
Self-Happiness is completely learnable! It’s just like learning how to ride a bike: It may be tricky at first, but with a little push, you’ll know how to do it and will never forget it! How?
